ABOUT DRAMATIC DOCUMENTARIES

Independent Filmmaker |Wedding Videographer |
Drone Operator |Vision and Sound Editor |Interviewer

From an early age I was fascinated with television and movie magic, I would make my own shows in the backyard with my sister and once our family could afford a camera, I have never looked back.  Since 1995 I have acting in, produced, shoot and edited films across the genres of documentary, drama, television commercials and weddings.

I established David Jackson Media Productions in Emerald, Central Queensland, in 2001, capturing many local weddings, live theatre productions and other celebrations.

Returning to Brisbane in 2004, I recorded over 30 Queensland Arts Council productions and in 2007 I created the cinematic theatre projections for a live in-schools production Greek to Chic (Ninehill Productions/QAC) which toured all around Queensland.

I completed my Masters of Arts (Research) in documentary film production at QUT’s Creative Industries in 2009 and was mentored by Master Filmmaker and Adjunct Professor Mike Rubbo (Canadian Film Board/ABC Sydney) and I interviewed many actors including Australian of the Year Geoffrey Rush and the since deceased Bille Brown and Carol Burns.

I posses a unique combination of technical skills and storytelling ability working comfortably both behind and in front of the camera. I have acted and presented for television including Redgum’s 2006 documentary competition and in 2005 Gridlock – Road to Ruin won Queensland Movie Makers Spring Comp, QMM Movie of the Year, a Gold Diploma, Cotswold International Film Festival 2006 and a Certificate of Merit - 39th Melbourne International Film Festival.  My work has been shown on Channel 9 (60 Minutes) and many times on Briz31.

I can usually be found teaching Drama, Media Studies or FTV in schools all over Queensland. Over the last 25 years, I have developed a depth of experience in both the technical and creative aspects of video production.

In 2018 I re-branded with Dramatic Documentaries which is situated in the beautiful Whitsundays near Airlie Beach, Proserpine, Bowen and Mackay.

I utilise quality high definition video cameras, non-linear editing technology and can also output to DVD, Blu-Ray or any format you require.

In my spare time I wrangle my two daughters and volunteer much time and resources to local community productions and Scout shows including Brisbane Gang Show, Wonargo revue and John Wikman Productions.
